Middle School Mathematics classes are designed to provide direct instruction in numeracy and mathematics in alignment with the Common Core State Standards. Students in grades 6-8 are grouped according to their grade and individual skill levels. As in all of our classes, the student’s IEP drives the instruction, complementing the curricular benchmarks and standards.
Instruction in Middle School Mathematics is highly individualized. Students are met where they are, and are given help in progressing through the curriculum. Teachers take different approaches with different students, including multisensory approaches, visual organizers, tactile models, direct remediation, and paced instruction.
Math instruction for remediation focuses on the math calculation and math problem solving portions of each student’s IEP. Progress is measured through independent work, classroom-based assessments, and formal assessments.
